Choreography & Painting by Mae Bet
Inspired by “Free” by EJAE & Andrew Choi from KPOP Demon Hunters
“We can’t fix it if we never face it.
Let the past be the past 'til it’s weightless.”
— Free
Free is a choreographic painting created from a place of release and reflection.
When Mae Bet first heard “Free” during KPOP Demon Hunters, she wasn’t prepared for how deeply it would resonate. What started as a playful movie moment quickly became emotional—the song’s vocals, lyrics, and instrumental cracked something open. Tears came before the song even ended.
That moment of surrender stayed with her.
Right then, she turned to her friends and said:
“I’m going to choreograph this. And I’m going to paint it.”
Free is about letting go of heaviness—both physically and emotionally.
It’s about shedding the weight of the past, releasing guilt, and learning to breathe again.
With every dance step and brushstroke, Mae Bet created this piece as an act of healing.
A reminder that the past may shape us—but it doesn’t have to own us.
