Free is a choreographic painting by Mae Bet, inspired by the powerful ballad “Free” sang by EJAE & Andrew Choi from the KPOP Demon Hunters soundtrack.
The piece was born from a single lyric that became its heartbeat: “We can’t fix it if we never face it. Let the past be the past ‘til it’s weightless.”
Mae describes hearing the song for the first time as a moment of complete surrender—unexpected tears, an unshakable feeling of release, and a deep knowing that this needed to become both a dance and a painting.
Through movement translated into brushstrokes, Free reflects the courage to face the past, the beauty in letting go, and the lightness that follows. Every mark is both a step and a stroke—a physical embodiment of healing through art.
